Ian Davis, 32, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty last year following a weeklong trial of presenting police with a forged document when he tried to get a Land Rover out of impound.
Davis was found guilty of criminal possession of a forged instrument, a felony, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor. This week, he was sentenced to two and a half to five years in prison, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., announced.
Scarpino said that on April 8, 2016, Davis went to the Village of Irvington Police Department to obtain an impounded 2011 Land Rover. While there, he submitted a forged lien release to the Irvington Police in an attempt to get the vehicle out of impound despite a hold having been placed it.
Police told Davis, they could not release the vehicle to him due to the hold and warned Davis that his license had been suspended. Despite the warning, Davis drove away in a 2012 BMW X5 in front of police headquarters.
Officers spotted Davis driving away and he was taken into custody for driving with a suspended license. It was later determined that the lien document was a forgery.
